Project 365 week 3

Well, guys, I am sticking with it!  The weather is cold and dreary, so you are seeing more than I normally show of my at-home life. I honestly have mixed feelings about showing images of my kids much, but I will probably write more about that at another time.  If you are working on a 365 this year, let me know how it’s going for you.  When inspiration becomes hard to find, I plan on turning to daily prompts for encouragement, but for now the project is coming along!

Happy New Year!

It’s a good thing that it’s perfectly appropriate to say, “Happy New Year!” for the entire month of January here in Switzerland because I’m am, simply, a slowpoke!  I spent the holidays with my kids hanging out, having fun adventures and taking tons of photos (of course).  I also spent some time reflecting on what my 2017 goals would be.  I’ve decided to take on a 365 Project this year, which means I’ll be taking a photo a day with my dslr, every day for the entire year!  I’ll be sharing my weekly collages here and some individual images or sets that I’m particularly proud of too. You’ll be seeing what you would expect from me in terms of lifestyle, travel and nature photos, but I’ll also be experimenting with freelensing, motion, different editing styles and some moodier fine art.  Here are weeks one and two.  Please let me know what you think and wish me luck completing this project!  I’ll need it!

Paris

During the fall school holidays we took our little kids to Paris for a four day “introduction” to this amazing city.  Now, I know that going to Paris for a “quick” trip might sound exotic and privileged to most people (especially those of you living in the US), but having these types of adventures is precisely why we made the move last year to my husband’s native Switzerland. I feel so fortunate and grateful to be here at this time and sharing experiences like this with my little kids and husband (and occasionally my older daughter, too 🙂 ). All in all, our airfare was less than $100 each and we stayed in a friend’s apartment.  We ate affordably and used public transportation and our own feet to get around.  We were literally on our feet from morning until night. In four days we packed in visits to the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Versailles, the Arc du Triomphe, Place Concorde, Luxembourg Gardens and Notre Dame.  Whew!  I feel tired just writing that list 🙂

I am still tweaking my website, but I have been anxious to get started blogging and sharing, so here we go.  Over time I will be polishing this site and adding features (including a store), so come back again!  I welcome your comments and questions and I’m so happy you are here.

It’s been a while, so I’m checking in

As most of you know, this spring I quit my photography business and moved with my family to Switzerland.  Since then, I have continued to take (thousands of) pictures, but strictly as a hobbyist.  I share my work mostly on Facebook and Instagram now.  I don’t know what will become of this site, but for now I’m holding on to it.  I believe in my process and, even though I don’t know now what will become of my photography and this blog, I trust that something will.  xxoo Kate.

2014 Award Winners

One of my photography goals in 2014 was to take some pretty big risks and submit my work to some photo competitions.  I started this process by choosing some curated and themed online submission groups to enter my work to. I am so pleased with the results.  I was given a very warm reception in this community and some of my favorite work was featured.  Here’s a gallery of my featured work this year. Thanks to all the curators and judges who chose to share and feature my images.  Your attention helps keep me going and growing and is appreciated more than you know!  Kate.
