Project 365 Week 8

We were on vacation from work and school last week and I had tons of opportunities to take photos. While my hubs and kids skied in the alps, I went on some long and very satisfying hiking adventures.  Our three day trip ended with an afternoon at the thermal baths (ahhhh) and then a couple of days at home and the lake to regroup before our re-entry.  I’ve completed two whole months of this project and although the weather is currently windy and raining for three days, I now feel pretty confident that I can complete the whole year.  I am making a list of shots I can use if I feel stuck some days (like breaking out the macro lens since I usually have flowers and fruit in the house) so I always feel like I have material to work with and stay inspired by.  Here’s to week 8!

Project 365 Weeks 5 & 6

I am currently googling “glamping in France” in the hopes of finding a treehouse or remote cabin in the woods to stay at this summer.  A girl can dream, right?  In the meantime, here are weeks five and six of my 2017 Project 365.  Still having a great time taking an image a day and creating these collages.  I post every day on Instagram – are you following me there?  www.instagram.com/katecuenoud.  See you there!  xxoo Kate.

Project 365 Week 4

lausanne family photographerAs I complete my first month of this year’s Project 365, I begin to notice things.  When I look at my weekly collages, I notice that my images just seem to go together, yet each week seems to have its own identity that is different from the others.  I will have to keep watching this to see what evolves over the year.  I also notice something else that I would like to talk more about.

As photographers, we are often given two very specific, but very different pieces of advice:

1 – Find your niche and create a consistent look

2 – Be authentic!

To some photographers this might make sense and hats off to the lucky artist who can find a niche, create a consistent look all while staying true to herself and her artistic expression.  For most of us, I am guessing that although this might be the goal, it is difficult to achieve.  For myself, my authentic voice speaks through experimentation and variety.  In my work you will see portraits, landscapes, macro work, freelensing, motion blur, underwater images and double exposures.  I work in color and in black and white.  As a matter of fact, the only consistent thing I do is take a lot of pictures (oh, and I post at the same time every day on Instagram!). Yet.  yet, yet, yet….after a time I notice that no matter my subject, the voice is still mine.  Look at my work and you see my restless heart. You see an adventurer who doesn’t take life too seriously and has great respect for the natural world and our place in it.  You see a mother.  An observer. You see me.

Project 365 week 3

Well, guys, I am sticking with it!  The weather is cold and dreary, so you are seeing more than I normally show of my at-home life. I honestly have mixed feelings about showing images of my kids much, but I will probably write more about that at another time.  If you are working on a 365 this year, let me know how it’s going for you.  When inspiration becomes hard to find, I plan on turning to daily prompts for encouragement, but for now the project is coming along!

Happy New Year!

It’s a good thing that it’s perfectly appropriate to say, “Happy New Year!” for the entire month of January here in Switzerland because I’m am, simply, a slowpoke!  I spent the holidays with my kids hanging out, having fun adventures and taking tons of photos (of course).  I also spent some time reflecting on what my 2017 goals would be.  I’ve decided to take on a 365 Project this year, which means I’ll be taking a photo a day with my dslr, every day for the entire year!  I’ll be sharing my weekly collages here and some individual images or sets that I’m particularly proud of too. You’ll be seeing what you would expect from me in terms of lifestyle, travel and nature photos, but I’ll also be experimenting with freelensing, motion, different editing styles and some moodier fine art.  Here are weeks one and two.  Please let me know what you think and wish me luck completing this project!  I’ll need it!

Kate.
